A Dog: Vessels from which to drink the drinking vessel
Muslims are supposed to maintain attention to cleanliness and purity in everyday matters, which extends to using clean eating and drinking vessels.
Islamic teachings have prescribed detailed guidance for any vessel which a dog has had from, as well as what are the rulings about vessels of which cats and other creatures around, may drink and then use the vessel further. Cleaning of a dog's vessel:
More specific, from a similar hadith of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): "The purification of a vessel from which a dog drank is by washing it seven times with water and at the first of them he washes it with earth." This teaching from the Prophet (peace be upon him) presents us with specific instructions, this means that if a dog has direct access into the liquid from the vessel it should not merely be rinsed over and again and be made ready to be used immediately.
This teaching clearly instructs us that the particular vessel, first with the earth during the initial wash, then with the water for seven times should be washed; the teaching is of course an order to take purity serious and adhere to the orders shown to us by the Prophet (peace be upon him).
The teachings for animals are such that families would need to be aware of them; in fact when kids begin to become independent, and families may no longer strictly observe, or think it unnecessary the practices Islam is teaching, there needs to be care; so from this hadith for the family at home it needs to be taught: "When a dog drinks from the family drinking cup, it needs to be washed with earth for one wash and water for seven washes," as parents, this is a good lesson for children to begin making sure that their living standards of purity and hygiene are according to how Islam wants to be adhered.
Children at such times will want to understand what the Islamic teaching on handling the mess is to understand why at times they have to put such importance into the cleaning process without them creating fuss and or further question upon what has to be practiced at the home.
It would be helpful if all families should be clear in practice with such rulings when asked without any sort of assumption on anyone and just adhere to the exact message from the Messenger (peace be upon him), all actions from an adherent of Islam need be clear due to Allah (subhana wa taala)'s clear words.
A cat:
Another type of beast that is very common in many of our Muslim homes is a cat. A hadith concerning this narrated by Abu Qatada (may Allah be pleased with him) goes as follows, Kabshah narrates, “the cat came up and drank from the vessel of ablution, Abu Qatadah let her do it.
She narrated of him, that she made a comment to him after this to which he responded that Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Cats are not impure rather they are creatures that roam about amongst you." This teaching from the Messenger (peace be upon him) informs us that if a cat happens to take drinks from a water source which can then be used as ablution or anything other; the water is not contaminated and it can then be used without having to replace water altogether; from Sahih Tirmidhi, Nasa'i and Abu Dawud's books, a variety of narrations from Abu Qatadah were narrated concerning his story.
In practice it does help families of many Muslims to have an instruction so as to clarify: If a dog has drunken from one of your drinking glasses, this glass will need to be washed at seven times, including Earth.
However, if a cat has a little taste of that same glass's water, it does not necessitate change if the water to be used further for such, i.e. For ablution; if only to satisfy children, the mother can even pretend it is from a fairy, however the actual ruling should prevail without parents making false claims regarding religious teachings; in fact the family should strictly know as what to do as that the cat did nothing unclean to the liquid as compared to when a dog does; by knowing such facts about these teachings the Muslims of this era will carry out its teaching appropriately.
By knowing that what is taught is something of goodness will always lead a person to adhere towards following teachings no matter what circumstance it may include.
Conclusion:
When the Muslim lives in harmony with the teachings of their religion such as cleanliness and purity amongst many such subjects; then life becomes far less confusing and much neater in terms of order.
In cases where a dog drinks, then at least at home, with families having children it does not mean that the cleansing instructions must be skipped as in the hadith of the Messenger (peace be upon him), at least not with any children in order for the ruling to be imparted correctly among the new generation while as the cat, although with great love, should not be given much leeway or control when in the home, however the purification standard of the cat versus what may be in a drinking utensil and if a dog can have anything from it needs always to be made clear without making up false stories and to continue in order to set a higher and better standard of living amongst our households with proper instruction and practice each day so that our faith remain strongly within our heart, always aiming to live the best of lives known to us through following.
