People who return from Hajj bring Zamzam water. Did the Prophet (PBUH) take it to Medina like this? Is it true that drinking this water cures diseases?
Abu Jesus said, “This is a good and strange hadith, we do not recognize it except from this aspect.”
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to carry Zamzam water (to Medina). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said that he carried it in this way.Book: Tirmidhi 886
We can know the sanctity of Zamzam water from its history.
When Ishmael (peace be upon him) was a small child, he was thirsty. To quench his thirst, God sent an angel and produced the present Zamzam water.
Book: Bukhari 3364
It gains sanctity as a spring revealed by an angel.
There are hadiths that the heart of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was washed with Zamzam water when he was taken to the Ascension.
Source: Bukhari 349, 3207, 3342, 7517
However, there is no evidence to suggest that the pilgrims should be bathed with Zamzam water after death.
There is also no command to drink it with the head uncovered or while standing. It can only be said that it is permissible to drink it in that way since the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) drank it while standing.
