Islam advocates that weddings be conducted at a minimal cost. Weddings should not be held merely to gain the admiration of others or to flaunt one's wealth to the world.
The Holy Quran strongly condemns wasteful extravagance and actions performed solely to impress others. Do not be wasteful! He does not love those who are wasteful.
(Holy Quran 6:141)
Eat and drink! Do not be wasteful! He does not like those who are wasteful.
(Holy Quran 7:31)
Give the relative, the poor, and the wayfarer their due rights! Do not squander [your wealth] wastefully! Those who squander are the brothers of devils; and Satan is ungrateful to his Lord.
(Holy Quran 17:26, 27)
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) specifically emphasized that weddings should be conducted with minimal expense.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated that the wedding conducted with the least expense is the one most blessed (*barakah*).
