Prohibited creatures
The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade the consumption of certain creatures other than these which are prohibited in the Holy Quran. That prohibition is also a prohibition from God. We have to understand that too and follow it.
Which of the creatures can be eaten? The problem of what not to eat is considered very complex among people. Can you eat this? Can you eat this? We see that the questions are getting more and more in the Muslim press.
Actually this is a very simple matter. What can we eat of living animals if we only know a few basics? We can know for ourselves what not to eat.
A type of marine life among living creatures. The answer is that there is no such thing as what should not be eaten of marine life. There is not a single exclusion among marine life. All marine life is halal.
No one needs to believe that some religious scholars say that crabs, sharks and whales should not be eaten. Because there is no evidence in Quran and Hadith to say this. They say it by imagining themselves.
Hunting in the sea and its food are permitted to you. (Qur'an 5:96)
It is He who has provided you with the sea so that you may eat green meat. (Qur'an 16:14)
We have mentioned earlier the hadith that even those who die in sea water are halal.
These are proofs that all marine life, including the dead, is halal.
If any of the sea creatures were forbidden to eat, it was for Allah and His Messenger to say so. No one else has the power to make haram.
Allah and His Messenger did not declare any of the sea creatures as haram.
Birds
The second major species is the bird species.
It is not mentioned in the Qur'an and Hadith that these are halal and these are haram by listing the names of birds.
However, the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave a general measure of which of the bird species is haram.
‘The Prophet (PBUH) forbade eating every bird of Miglap’. Narrated by: Ibn Abbas (RA). Text: Muslim
‘Miklap’ is interpreted by some as nail. Nails are the perfect material for jumping and hunting.
Any bird that has claws that are used to hunt other species is prohibited from eating them.
Birds like vulture, hawk, vulture hunt other creatures with their claws. We should avoid such bird species.
Birds such as chickens have sharp claws but use nails for companions only when they eat dead ones. It uses its mouth to hunt the creature (worms).
Therefore, all birds except those that use nails to hunt other species are allowed to eat.
