Answer: He has asked this because he mistakenly believes there are idols inside the rectangular structure known as the Kaaba.
The Kaaba was originally built for worship by the first human, Adam (peace be upon him). Later, after it fell into disrepair, it was reconstructed by Abraham (peace be upon him). They both performed prayers inside that very structure. Just as the mosques in our country are sacred spaces, the interior of the Kaaba is simply a sacred space. Much like any mosque—which contains no idols or symbols of worship—the interior of the Kaaba is an empty space.
No one is permitted to enter it now because the human population has multiplied manifold, making it impossible for everyone to go inside and pray.
Explain to him that there is nothing inside the Kaaba other than four walls and pillars! He will understand the truth.
